From pulling Nitish’s hijab to saluting the narrator… what did Mayawati say?

December 20, 2025 by Uma Shankar

The issue of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pulling the hijab of a Muslim female doctor during the public program of distribution of appointment letters to doctors is gaining momentum. Now BSP supremo Mayawati has asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to end the controversy and repent. He said that especially due to the statements of ministers etc., it is continuously gaining momentum in the form of controversy, which is sad and unfortunate. He said that since this matter is prima facie related to women’s safety and respect, it should have been resolved by now with the direct intervention of the Honorable Chief Minister.

Mayawati said that especially when other such incidents are also being heard at many places. It would be good ma. The Chief Minister should look at this incident in the right perspective and repent for it and try to end this dispute which is becoming bitter.

What did you say on the salami controversy?

Apart from this, the BSP supremo raised questions on the salute given to a storyteller by the Bahraich District Police of Uttar Pradesh. He said that the issue of saluting a narrator in a police parade, contrary to the established tradition and rules, is also a matter of great controversy. The government is in the dock regarding this. He said that police parade and salute has its own tradition, dignity, discipline and sanctity, which should not be played with at all.

He said that it is a good thing that the UP Police Chief has taken cognizance of this incident and has sought a reply from the District Police Captain. People are waiting for action. He said that if the state government also takes this seriously and stops the recurrence of such incidents, it would be right in the interest of police administration, discipline and rule of law.

This session is surrounded by controversy

Mayawati also mentioned the short winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly which started from December 19. He said that like the previous sessions, this session has also become embroiled in debates between the government and the opposition due to staying away from the issues of public interest and public welfare. It would have been better if the government had been serious about the farmers’ fertilizer problem as well as other problems of public interest and public welfare and would have been accountable for them in the House.

Along with this, the winter session of Parliament also ended yesterday without considering the grave problems of the country and public interest, including the serious problem of air pollution in the capital Delhi. While the eyes of the entire country were fixed that both the government and the opposition would consider the burning problems of the country and this would generate some new ray of hope, but it is unfortunate that nothing like this happened.

The country’s concerns continue to persist. Mayawati said that along with this, the situation in the neighboring country Bangladesh is rapidly deteriorating and anti-India activities are increasing there like Nepal, which is also a matter of concern. It would be appropriate if the Central Government takes proper cognizance of this and works as per long term policy.
