Former Union Minister of State for Home and senior Congress leader Shriprakash Jaiswal passed away, breathed his last in Kanpur.

Former Union Minister of State for Home and senior Congress leader Shriprakash Jaiswal passed away on Friday. He breathed his last in Kanpur itself. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over his demise by posting on social media handle X. While posting, CM Yogi said, the demise of former Union Minister, senior politician Shri Shriprakash Jaiswal ji is very sad. Humble tribute to him! It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed saint a place at his feet and the bereaved family members the strength to bear this immense sorrow.

Former Union Minister Shriprakash Jaiswal was active in politics for a long time. He not only gave a strong position to Congress in Kanpur but also brought many big projects for Kanpur during his tenure as Union Minister. Shriprakash Jaiswal, who was MP from Kanpur for three consecutive terms and was Union Minister for 10 years, died late night. After his health deteriorated at his Pokharpur residence at night, his relatives took him to the Heart Disease Institute, where doctors confirmed his death.

Started political career as mayor

Shriprakash Jaiswal was born in Kanpur. On 28 April 1967, he married Maya Rani Jaiswal. The couple has two sons, a daughter and two grandchildren. Shriprakash Jaiswal started his political career in 1989 as the Mayor of Kanpur city. After this he moved towards national politics. Shriprakash Jaiswal also served as the President of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. His tenure lasted from 2000 to 2002. During this time he tried to expand the organization and strengthen the roots of Congress.

Minister who served during UPA 1 and 2 tenure

In the first term of UPA, Shriprakash Jaiswal was made the Minister of State for Home. He held this post from 23 May 2004 to 22 May 2009. In the Manmohan government, he performed important responsibilities related to internal security, law and order and home ministry. He worked as Coal Minister in UPA-2 from 19 January 2011 to 26 May 2014. He had to face defeat in the 2014 elections.

Representation of Kanpur for 15 years

Shriprakash Jaiswal was elected MP from Kanpur Lok Sabha seat for the first time in the year 1999. After this, he registered consecutive victories in 2004 and 2009 also. He continued representing Kanpur in Parliament for 15 consecutive years. After this, he faced defeat in 2014 during the Modi wave.
