To make dry ginger pudding, you will need one cup of ghee (if you are a fitness freak, you can reduce the ghee), one-fourth cup of dry ginger powder, 1 cup of wheat flour, 1 cup of jaggery, 10-12 almonds (finely chopped), 2 spoons of Magaj seeds, about 2 cups of water. Traditionally, to make dry ginger halwa, flour, ghee and sweetener are taken in equal quantity, but if you are a fitness freak or considering the sedentary lifestyle of today, you can reduce the amount of sweet and ghee. However, dry ginger halwa is eaten only in limited quantity, hence ghee and sweets do not make much difference. Desi ghee is also rich in nutrients and dry ginger is considered healthy instead of sugar. If you are gluten intolerant, you can also use flour from other grains instead of wheat.
Dry ginger pudding recipe
- While making halwa, ghee has to be used in two parts. First of all, heat half the ghee in a pan, add wheat flour to it and fry it till golden while stirring on low flame.
- When the flour gets roasted and a nice aroma starts coming out, add dry ginger powder and jaggery to it and roast it lightly. After this turn off the gas.
- Now put one spoon of remaining ghee in a pan and roast the chopped almonds and other nuts. Roast magaj seeds also.
- Add the remaining ghee to the prepared flour and turn on the gas. Also mix almonds, caraway seeds and other nuts well. In this way a thick texture will be prepared.
- After adding all the ingredients, add water to the prepared flour mixture and cook the halwa on low flame while stirring continuously until it becomes smooth. It starts getting slight transparency and shine and it stops sticking. Halwa is ready at this stage.
- You can feed hot dry ginger halwa to children as well as adults, but if you are giving it to a child then feed it only in small quantities. Many people make dry ginger halwa without flour. But flour enhances both its texture and taste.
- If you want to have dry ginger halwa mixed with lukewarm milk, you can skip the flour.
