
The effect of Cyclonic Storm Ditvah and Cyclone Senyar is visible in the southern and coastal areas. According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Ditvah, which was earlier a deep depression, is currently over the coastal areas of Sri Lanka and the adjoining south-west Bay of Bengal. This system is moving in a north-northwest direction, and is expected to reach near the coasts of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh by the morning of 30 November.
Meanwhile, Cyclone ‘Senyar’ What remains of the cyclone has weakened into a low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca, but its impact, coupled with the intensification of Ditva, is creating unstable conditions over the Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas.
The Meteorological Department says that heavy rain is expected in the southern states. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is occurring in many southern states, with Tamil Nadu experiencing the worst weather.
Heavy rain warning on 28-29 November
The Meteorological Department has warned of very heavy rain at some places on 28 and 29 November. Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh are also on alert, very heavy rains may occur on November 30, when this system will move close to the coast. Heavy rain is also expected in some parts of Kerala, Telangana and Karnataka. Over South Interior Karnataka, rainfall is likely to be highest around November 29, while Telangana may receive heavy rainfall around November 30 and December 1.
Till November 28, there is an alert of heavy rain in many districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Rain is also expected in Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin. According to the Meteorological Department, there is an alert of rain and thunder in Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh till December 1. Similar conditions will prevail in Kerala and Mahe till 29th November.
The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a great danger of lightning during this period, especially in the coastal and low-lying areas. There is a different situation in Andaman and Nicobar Islands also. There will be strong winds at a speed of 30-40 kmph along with thunderstorms on 28th and 29th November.
Red alert for Tamil Nadu
Due to the formation of this cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, a warning of very heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued in various districts of Tamil Nadu for the next few days. On 28 November 2025, a red alert has been issued for four districts Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai.
After this, orange alert has been issued for Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Trichy, Mayiladuthurai and Ariyalur districts. Also, a warning has been issued regarding heavy rainfall recorded at some places in Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Perambalur and Cuddalore districts. Similarly, red alert has been issued for Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts on November 29, 2025. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in these districts.
Additionally, orange alert has been issued for Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Ranipet districts as very heavy rainfall is likely on November 30, 2025. Similarly, it has been reported that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at some places in Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts.
warning to fishermen
Due to the formation of this cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, a warning has been issued that the winds can blow at a speed of 35 to 45 kilometers per hour and at times up to 50 kilometers per hour. Due to this storm, fishermen have been advised not to go deep sea fishing and return to the shore immediately.
Due to warning of heavy rain, half-day holiday has been declared in schools and colleges of 3 districts of Tamil Nadu today. Earlier, due to continuous heavy rains, holiday was declared only in schools of Rameshwaram taluk of Ramanathapuram district.
