Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Saturday attended a two-day international conference organized at a private university in Sonipat, Haryana. During this time, the CJI has called upon the law students to let honesty become the basic structure of their character and not to change it in any way. You are talking about honesty and this is a very important line for you. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also attended this program.
In a seminar organized on the topic of independence of judiciary and broad perspective of civil rights, CJI Surya Kant said that the study of law can be both difficult and inspiring. Dear students, remember that you are students of what will happen next. The Constitution will last only as long as your morality maintains it. CJI Surya Kant said that ‘honesty’ is not just an ornament of character, but it is the discipline that maintains both justice and dignity. He said that the practice of law and the pursuit of justice should always be directed towards this ideal of ‘honesty’.
era of truth and noise
Supreme Court CJI Surya Kant highlighted the challenges of the present era, where ‘deepfakes’ create distortions, misinformation spreads rapidly, and ‘digital arrests’ have become common. He warned that in such times, honesty and truth are no longer just high ideals, but means of survival, and the only legitimate “shortcut” to real success.
Justice dedicated to the service of building a better India
The CJI further said that whenever a petition comes before us, we not only consider the facts and law, but we also always remember the fundamental promise of our Constitution under which we all have accepted to live as a society. We always keep in mind the higher goals embodied in the document to which we dedicated ourselves on November 26, 1949. And this higher goal ensures that when we deliver justice, we are not merely following the law, but we are putting the law in the service of building a better India.
