
Cyclonic storm Ditvah has caused huge devastation in Sri Lanka. So far, more than 200 people have died due to floods and landslides caused by Ditwah, while more people are missing. This cyclonic storm has badly shaken Sri Lanka. Due to this lakhs of people have become homeless. Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) said that 9,98,918 people have been affected due to Ditwah.
The powerful cyclone Ditvaha, which arose in the Indian Ocean, hit the eastern coast of the country on Friday. After this it started raining heavily. The water level of Kelani River started rising rapidly in the capital Colombo. After this there was a flood. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Saturday declared a state of emergency across the country and appealed for international assistance.
India immediately sent help to Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan government has appealed to citizens living abroad to donate. After this, India immediately sent help to the neighboring country. Two planes of the Indian Air Force delivered relief material to Colombo. NDRF and Indian Air Force personnel are working on war footing to assist Sri Lankan authorities in saving lives.
India has sent two search and rescue teams of 80 NDRF personnel to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern about this devastation in Sri Lanka and said that India is ready for all possible assistance. At the same time, America also provided assistance through the World Food Program (WFP). US Ambassador Julie Chang tweeted that we stand with the people of Sri Lanka.
More than 320 Indians stranded in Sri Lanka returned
More than 320 Indian citizens stranded at Colombo airport due to Cyclone Ditvaha in Sri Lanka were sent back to their country on Sunday. The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, in coordination with the IAF and other concerned authorities, helped in the evacuation of 323 Indians stranded at the Bandaranaike International Airport here.
