
The Indian Air Force is continuously conducting relief and rescue operations in the Kotmale area of Sri Lanka affected by heavy landslides. Due to complete closure of the road, this area is completely cut off. In such a situation, IAF helicopters remained busy throughout the day in evacuating people safely. Today the Indian Air Force rescued 45 stranded people, including 6 seriously injured, 4 infants and 12 Indian citizens.
Apart from this, citizens of many other countries and a large number of Sri Lankans were also safely transported to Colombo. To further strengthen the relief operation, IAF also airlifted 57 Sri Lankan Army personnel to the affected area, so that rescue and debris removal work on the ground could be done quickly.
More than 300 Indians were airlifted
Along with this, Indian Air Force also delivered Bhishma capsule, medical team and other relief material to Kotmale area. IAF has airlifted more than 300 Indian citizens till 8 pm and many more flights will continue till late night. This swift and coordinated action by India has come as a great relief to the people stranded in Sri Lanka.
Apart from this, more than 30 foreign citizens from many countries including Germany, South Africa, Slovenia, UK, Poland, Belarus, Iran, Australia, Pakistan and Bangladesh were also safely transported to Colombo. Sri Lankan citizens are also being continuously taken to safe places.
More than 330 people died
So far, more than 330 people have died in Sri Lanka due to floods and landslides caused by Cyclonic Storm Ditvaha, while more people are missing. This cyclonic storm has badly shaken Sri Lanka. Due to this lakhs of people have become homeless. Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) said that 9,98,918 people have been affected due to Ditwah.
