The dispute within the Congress regarding the post of Chief Minister in Karnataka has not ended completely yet. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has called Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a breakfast meeting at his home. Earlier, to show unity in the meeting called by the Congress high command, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar had held a breakfast meeting at Siddaramaiah’s house Kaveri on 29 November.
There is speculation that a power tussle is going on between the two regarding the top post of the state. To resolve this, round-2 of breakfast meeting is being held. Earlier there were discussions that the differences between the two would be resolved from Delhi, but through such meetings, an attempt is being made to show that all is well in the party and the disputes will be resolved in Bengaluru itself.
During the first breakfast meeting held at Siddaramaiah’s house, the Chief Minister had asserted that there were no differences between him and Shivakumar now and there would be no differences in future also.
Trying to pretend everything is going well
Siddaramaiah said at a press conference, “Our agenda is 2028 elections. Local body elections are necessary, we discussed them. We also discussed bringing Congress back in the 2028 elections. We discussed that we will fight the elections together. There are no differences between us and there will be no differences in future also.” He also reiterated that he will follow the decision of the Congress high command on this issue.

According to reports, a group of MLAs supporting Shivakumar had recently gone to Delhi for mid-term leadership shift, while Siddaramaiah’s supporters have clearly denied any such arrangement. It is reported that top leaders of Congress are considering several steps like cabinet reshuffle and organizational changes in Karnataka Congress unit to reduce tension and stabilize the government.
Power sharing formula was decided upon government formation
According to some claims and reports, an informal 2.5 year formula was decided between the two leaders after the 2023 assembly elections. In which Siddaramaiah was made the Chief Minister for the first 2.5 years, and DK Shivakumar was to be handed over for the remaining 2.5 years. In November 2025, the government will complete 2.5 years.
DK Shivakumar’s supporters are talking about keeping the promise, but Siddaramaiah wants to remain in office for full 5 years. BJP attacked this by calling it internal discord of Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have asked both to remain united.
