Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a big decision to further strengthen the teacher recruitment process in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi government has appointed former Director General of Police (DGP) of the state and 1990 batch IPS officer Prashant Kumar, famous for anti-mafia operations, as the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Prayagraj (UPESSC).

Through this commission, teachers are recruited at secondary and higher education level. Prashant Kumar retired from the post of DGP of UP Police in May 2025. Only seven months after his retirement, the Yogi government has entrusted him with this important responsibility, which shows the Chief Minister’s confidence in his administrative experience and credibility. It is said that after the formation of Yogi government, Prashant Kumar was included in Yogi’s good list. This discussion was already going on that Yogi will again join Prashant Kumar in some way.

Who is Prashant Kumar?

Prashant Kumar, originally a resident of Hathori village of Siwan district of Bihar, was born on 16 May 1965. Prashant Kumar, who has been topper in studies since the beginning, has been very bright. He has three master’s degrees. Prashant Kumar, a 1990 batch IPS officer, was initially given the Tamil Nadu cadre, but got transferred to the Uttar Pradesh cadre in 1994 due to personal reasons. His wife Dimple Verma has also been an IAS officer and is currently a member of UP RERA.

Was DGP for one and a half years

Prashant Kumar’s career in UP Police is known for his strict action against crime and mafia. He remained acting DGP for about one and a half years. During his tenure as DGP and ADG Law and Order, more than 300 police encounters took place, which also included the killing of notorious gangster Vikas Dubey.

Famous as ‘Real Life Singham’

Prashant Kumar has received the President’s Police Medal for bravery four times. He was called ‘Real Life Singham’ in UP Police. Prashant Kumar, one of the most trusted officers of Yogi Adityanath, was a symbol of zero tolerance policy against crime.
