
The condition of government schools of the country is not hidden from anyone. In what way the conditions of schools are getting worse every day. However, the reality is that children from poor families of the country only study in government schools. But, the statistics of schools are not good. This is because more than 5 thousand schools are lying vacant across the country. There is not a single student to study in these schools. Information about the figures has been given in the Parliament.
According to the data presented in Parliament, there are a total of 10 lakh 13 thousand government schools in India. In the year 2024-2025, not a single child has taken admission in 5149 schools. It is clear that there are schools but there are no children to study. These schools have proper buildings, teachers and classrooms have also been created.
According to government data, more than 70 percent of these schools with zero admissions in the academic year 2024-25 are in Telangana and West Bengal. There are many schools where only 5 to 10 children are studying. There are around 2081 zero admission schools in Telangana, while there are 1,571 such institutions in West Bengal.
Children running away from government schools!
The reality has also come to light from these figures presented in Parliament. Most of the people of the country are now running away from government schools. Instead of these they are turning to private schools. This is the reason why such a large number of schools are without children.
Staff deployed in schools even without students
According to data from the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+), Nalgonda district of Telangana recorded the highest number of 315 vacant schools in the state as well as the country. There are 167 schools in Mahabubabad and 135 in Warangal, which are the next two districts in terms of number of such schools in the state.
There are 211 government schools with zero admission in Kolkata, 177 in Purba Medinipur and 147 in Dakshin Dinajpur, the next two highest in the state. Despite the shortage of students, a large number of employees are deployed in these institutions.
There are 1.44 lakh teachers across the country who are posted in schools where there are less than 10 students. Which is more than 1.26 lakh in 2022-23. According to government data, 27,348 teachers are posted in 6,703 government schools of this low enrollment category in West Bengal. Bihar has deployed 3,600 teachers for 730 such schools. That means, about 5 teachers have been deployed in every school.
