Block committee and district council elections announced in Punjab, voting on 14 December

The long awaited Zilla Parishad and Block Committee elections in Punjab were finally announced on Friday. State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Choudhary announced the holding of Zilla Parishad and Block Committee elections. He told that voting in these elections will be done through ballot paper. The process of filing nominations will start from December 1.

State Election Commissioner said that 1 crore 36 lakh 4 thousand voters will vote for 155 Panchayat Samitis and Municipal Councils of 23 districts. 50 percent seats in the elections have been reserved for women. Voting will take place on December 14 from 8 am to 4 pm. In this election, 19,181 polling booths will be established across the state.

Nomination process will start from December 1

The nomination process for this election will start from December 1. The nomination process will run from 11 am to 3 pm. The last date for nomination will be December 4. On these days, nominations will be accepted till 3 pm, after which nominations can be withdrawn from 3 pm to 6 pm. Election marks will be given to the candidates after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is over. 50 percent seats in the elections have been reserved for women.

Enrollment fee Rs 400

The election officer said that a fee of Rs 400 has been fixed for filing nomination papers for Zilla Parishad. He said that two separate ballot boxes will be kept at each polling station for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti. Elections through EVMs will not be possible, as it requires 40 thousand EVMs and the machines available with the Election Commission are not issued to any state.

A district council in every district

There is a District Council in every district in Punjab, in which a total of 357 zones have been created and one member will be elected from each zone. Similarly, 15 to 25 zones are created in 154 Panchayat Samitis of the state, the total number of which is 2,863. One member will be elected from each zone. The voter count in rural areas is one crore 36 lakh 4 thousand.
