To crack down on the increasing fraud of birth and death certificates, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has ordered a statewide action. Instructions have been given to immediately cancel all suspicious certificates issued on the basis of Aadhaar card and lodge an FIR with the police against the concerned persons. The Revenue Department has sent 16-point detailed guidelines in this regard to all District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Officers and Tehsildars.
It is clearly stated in the circular that as per the rules of the Central Government, Aadhaar card cannot be considered as the sole proof of date of birth or birthplace. In the instructions given by the Revenue Department, it has been said that after the amendment of August 11, 2023, all the birth/death registration orders issued by Naib Tehsildars will be cancelled. Certificates issued only on the basis of Aadhaar will be considered erroneous and will be cancelled.
If there is a difference in the date of birth in the application and Aadhaar card, an immediate FIR will be lodged. Beneficiaries who do not submit fake certificates or are missing will be declared absconding. Special verification camps will be organized under the supervision of District Magistrate and Divisional Commissioners.
