TRAI spam crackdown: Taking major action against spam and fraud calls, TRAI has blocked more than 21 lakh mobile numbers in the last one year. Along with this, about one lakh entities have been blacklisted, which were involved in fake communication and fraud. TRAI has clarified that just blocking the numbers is not the solution, but users should report these numbers on the DND app. With the help of the report, regulators and telecom companies can trace the numbers and shut them down permanently.
TRAI’s big action: 21 lakh numbers blocked
TRAI said that this action has been taken after a large number of complaints received through the DND app. By tracing the numbers reported by users, telecom companies investigated them and permanently disconnected them if found incorrect. The regulator said that simply blocking the number does not end the problem, because spammers keep targeting other users by taking new numbers. Therefore reporting is the most effective way.
TRAI’s advice to users
TRAI has appealed to mobile users to download TRAI DND app and report spam calls and messages there. The regulator also said that do not share your personal and financial details over calls, messages or social media. Disconnect any suspicious or threatening call immediately and report incidents related to cyber fraud to 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in. This step not only protects yourself but also other users.
MNV platform will come soon
The Telecom Department is preparing to launch a Mobile Number Validation platform to prevent cyber fraud. With the help of this system, it can be checked whether the person who has registered the number in KYC is using it or not. This will reduce the use of fake SIM cards and misidentified numbers. This new platform can be launched in the coming months, which will further strengthen fraud transparency.
