
Bangladesh is currently surrounded by violence and unrest. After the death of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi, incidents of protests, vandalism and arson are continuously coming to light in many cities including Dhaka. In this same turbulent environment, another painful incident of communal violence took place, in which a Hindu youth lost his life.
In this heart-wrenching incident, which came to light from Waluka (Bhaluka) upazila of Mymensingh district, 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was brutally beaten to death by an angry mob, allegedly on charges of blasphemy. After the incident, the security force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) took immediate action and arrested seven suspects in the case.
7 suspects arrested
After the incident, RAB-14 conducted raids at different places and arrested seven suspects. Those arrested include Mohammad Limon Sarkar (19), Mohammad Tariq Hussain (19), Mohammad Manik Mia (20), Ershad Ali (39), Nijum Uddin (20), Alamgir Hussain (38) and Mohammad Miraj Hussain Akon (46). Officials say that the investigation is ongoing and the matter is being investigated in depth.
When and how did the incident happen?
According to police and BBC Bangla reports, an angry mob caught Dipu Chandra Das at around 9 pm on Thursday night in Square Master Bari Dubaliya Pada area. It was alleged that he had made alleged objectionable remarks against the Prophet. The angry mob beat the young man brutally due to which he died on the spot. After this the attackers tied the body to a tree and set it on fire.
Who was Dipu Chandra Das?
Dipu Chandra Das worked in a local garment factory and lived in a rented house in the area. According to initial information, he was living there for a long time. After the incident, the body has been sent to the mortuary of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
