Being a Muslim in the country is a crime, law should be brought… Abu Azmi said on Hijab controversy

December 20, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Samajwadi Party Maharashtra President Abu Asim Azmi strongly condemned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s decision to remove the hijab of a Muslim woman. He has said that what the CM has done to the woman is very wrong. He said that a case should be registered against Nitish Kumar.

However, this is not the first time that Abu Azmi has expressed his displeasure on this issue. He had also said that I am very sad that a senior leader holding the position of Chief Minister behaved so disrespectfully towards a woman. This is completely unacceptable. He had said that if a woman wears a burqa, it is her personal choice, and taking it off by force gives the message that the lives of Muslims have no value and anyone can take off their burqa.

‘It is a crime to be a Muslim in the country’

During a press conference on Saturday (20 December), the SP leader said that being a Muslim in the country is a crime. Now Muslims are not safe at all in the country. He is being called a traitor and is being asked to expel him from the country. The leader said that he never said that Khan should become the mayor, but said that a good person should be the mayor.

‘Blasphemy bill should be brought in Parliament’

Abu Azmi said that blasphemy bill should also be brought in Parliament. He said that he will talk to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for this. He said that it is expected that India Alliance and other secular parties will support it.

‘Humayun Kabir is working as an agent of BJP’

Along with this, while reacting on suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, he said that the former TMC MLA in Bengal is building Babri Masjid there. I have nothing to say on that. But I must say that he is working as an agent of BJP in Bengal, so that BJP gets benefit and votes are divided.

On the question of violence happening in Bangladesh and targeting of Hindus, he said that it should be condemned. Along with this he also said that before this we should fix our house. He said that Muslims are not safe here in India. They are being targeted. We should first fix this, listen to them.
