
Indian T20 team’s vice-captain and star opener Shubman Gill has once again become a victim of injury. Due to which he could not be a part of the last match of the T20 series against South Africa. He has been injured for the second time during this tour of South Africa team, which has increased the tension of Team India. Actually, Team India’s squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup is to be announced on December 20. A day before the announcement of the team, BCCI has given a big update on Gill’s injury.
BCCI gave update on Gill’s injury
This time Shubman Gill is injured in his right leg. Gill suffered this injury while practicing in Lucknow, due to which he had to be ruled out of the last match of the series. BCCI issued a press release and gave an update on Gill’s injury. BCCI wrote, ‘Shubman Gill got injured in his right leg while batting in the nets in Lucknow on 16th December. After consulting a specialist and receiving treatment from the BCCI medical team, his condition is improving, but he is not available for selection for the last T20 match in Ahmedabad.

This injury is part of a series of continuous troubles for Gill. Earlier in November, during the Test series against South Africa in Kolkata, he had a problem of neck spasm. At that time, he retired hurt after playing just three balls and had to be admitted to the hospital. Due to this injury, he was out of the remaining Test matches as well as the ODI series. After a long rehab, he had returned to the field for the T20 series, but now this new leg injury has again increased the tension.
Team will be announced on 20th December
This situation is quite worrying for Team India, because the T20 World Cup is to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February 2026. The tournament will run from 7 February to 8 March and the 15-member squad of the Indian team is going to be announced tomorrow i.e. on 20 December. Gill’s fitness has come under question just before this announcement. He is an important member of the team.
