Army’s big step after Operation Sindoor, 850 Kamikaze drones will be purchased

December 21, 2025 by Uma Shankar

After the important lessons learned from Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army is going to rapidly strengthen its drone warfare capability. The Army is preparing to purchase about 850 Kamikaze drones (loitering munitions) so that it can gain an edge in anti-terrorism and offensive operations. This proposal is now in the final stages and is likely to be approved in the high-level meeting of the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) to be held in the last week of this month.

This purchase will be done under the fast-track process, which clearly shows that the Army is very serious about drone capabilities. Under the plan, about 850 loitering munitions and their launchers will be purchased. The special thing is that all these systems will be taken from local companies, which will also promote self-reliant India.

However, the Indian Army is already using a large number of Kamikaze drones and there are plans to induct about 30 thousand such drones in the coming time. These drones will be deployed in all combat units of the army.

Ashni Platoon will be formed

There is also going to be a big change in the structure of the army. Now an Ashni platoon will be formed in every infantry battalion. This platoon will be responsible for precision strikes on enemy targets, surveillance and drone operations in counter-terrorism operations. This will provide direct drone power to frontline units and they will not have to depend on the units above.

‘Terrorist headquarters was destroyed using drones’

The Indian Army had extensively used drones to target terrorist headquarters inside Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. India had destroyed seven out of nine terrorist hideouts on the very first day of the operation. This operation was done after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. 26 people were killed in this.

Later, drones were also used against the Pakistani Army, which had come out strongly to protect the terrorists it supported. He told that the death toll in the army attacks was very high. This caused huge damage to the enemy infrastructure on the borders.
