
The average air quality index (AQI) in Delhi for January-November was the lowest recorded since 2018. Except for the year of Covid lockdown of 2020, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said this on Sunday. He said the average AQI for this time this year was 187, while it was 201 in 2024, 190 in 2023, 199 in 2022, 197 in 2021, 172 in 2020, 203 in 2019 and 213 in 2018. There were only three days between January and November this year when the average daily AQI was more than 400 (severe category). There were 11 such days in 2024, 12 in 2023, 4 in 2022, 17 in 2021, 11 in 2020, 16 in 2019 and 12 in 2018.
He said that so far this year, not a single day has crossed the figure of 450. Till November 27, the level of PM2.5 was the lowest since 2018 and was equal to 2020. The average this year was 85 micrograms per cubic meter, while it was 98 in 2024, 90 in 2023 and 2022, 95 in 2021, 85 in 2020, 99 in 2019 and 103 in 2018.
Working to prevent air pollution
The level of PM10 was also the lowest for the same period since 2018, except in 2020. The average this year was 183 micrograms per cubic metre, while it was 205 in 2024, 193 in 2023, 202 in 2022, 200 in 2021, 167 in 2020, 210 in 2019 and 228 in 2018, CAQM said as it plans to implement air pollution prevention and control measures. Is working with all the agencies and will intensify efforts to further improve the air quality in Delhi-NCR.
What is the condition of today’s pollution?
After some relief on Sunday, Delhi’s air quality has once again fallen into the very poor category. AQI 269 was recorded in the National Capital on Sunday, but the situation deteriorated rapidly, toxic smog engulfed the city and on Monday the AQI crossed 300.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI 325 was recorded in Anand Vihar, while the level in ITO was also 325, which shows very poor air quality. The AQI level in the areas around India Gate and Dutta Path was 267, which falls in the ‘poor’ category.
