After Big B’s refusal, the makers approached Jackie Shroff for the film. He had agreed to this. Artists like Madhuri Dixit, Shivkumar Subramaniam, Anupam Kher, Suresh Oberoi, Tom Alter, Kamal Chopra and Achyut Poddar also worked in Parinda. Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra had told in an interview that the budget of this picture was only Rs 12 lakh and it created a stir worldwide by doing a business of Rs 9 crore. Critics also praised this film a lot.
Won many awards
‘Parinda’ was awarded not one or two, but five Filmfare Awards. The film received these awards for Best Actor (Jackie Shroff), Best Director (Vidhu Vinod Chopra), Best Supporting Actor (Nana Patekar), Best Story (Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Shiv Subramaniam) and Best Editing (Renu Saluja). Nana Patekar was also given the National Award for Best Supporting Actor and Renu Saluja was given the National Award for Best Editing.
