
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired the third meeting of the advisory committee on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and learning in New Delhi on Thursday. Speaking at the meeting, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that AI can be helpful in addressing major challenges of education.
With this, good education can be made available to more people and education can be made easy and equal for all. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government’s focus is on making education student-centric and according to individual needs, so that both children and teachers can benefit. Union ministers related to education and skill development, committee members, senior officials of the Education Ministry and secretaries of both the departments, school and higher education, attended the meeting.
Use of AI in school education
It was told in the meeting that under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, AI is gradually being made a part of studies in schools. Children are being given understanding of computational thinking and AI from an early age. Project based learning is being promoted. AI has been introduced as a skill subject at the secondary level. Apart from this, through digital platforms like DIKSHA 2.0, e-Magic Box, Guru-Mitra, TARA App, My Career Advisor and Vidya Samiksha Kendra, AI is being used to provide education to children as per their needs, support to teachers, career guidance and monitoring the progress of studies.

Role of AI in higher education
Higher education was also discussed in the meeting. It was told that the courses in colleges and universities are being updated with the help of AI. Skills and different subjects are being taught by combining them. Research and innovation are being promoted. Its objective is to prepare students for the future, provide better employment opportunities and strengthen India’s higher education at the world level.
