According to Ramayana and mythological texts, Ahilya was the mental daughter of Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma had created him from his own mind. Ahilya was created by Lord Brahma with great care. This is the reason why Ahilya was considered the most beautiful woman of her time. Even the gods were infatuated with her and wanted to marry her. Ahilya is included in the sacred panchkanyas of Hindu religion.
Ahilya was married to the great ascetic and wise sage Gautam Rishi, one of the Saptarishis. According to the legend, one day Rishi Gautam went out of the ashram. When he was not there, Devraj Indra took his form and reached the ashram. Indra, in the guise of Gautam Rishi, tried to persuade Ahilya for love, but Ahilya realized that he was not Gautam Rishi, but Indra. He did not give his permission.
Devraj cursed Indra
Even after this Indra tried to force him. During that time Gautam Rishi came to the ashram. Then he saw that Indra had disguised him. Seeing this he became angry and cursed Indra. Gautam Rishi told Indra that the lust hidden inside you will be visible on your body also. Due to this curse, all the pores of Indra Dev’s body appeared as a woman’s vagina.
However, later, due to the insistence of the gods and the grace of God, those vaginas were transformed into eyes. After this, sage Gautam cursed Ahilya. He told Ahilya that she would remain a stone for thousands of years. Will survive only on air. Later, when Ahilya told the truth, Gautam Rishi regretted it. He said that his curse would not be reversed, but Ahilya would be saved by the grace of Lord Ram in Treta Yuga.
This is how Shri Ram saved us
In Treta Yuga, while going for Janakpur Dhanush Yagya with Guru Vishwamitra, Lord Ram and Lakshman saw a deserted ashram. After this Lord Ram asked Vishwamitra about the ashram. Then Vishwamitra told him the whole story of Ahalya and Gautam Rishi. Also asked to save Ahalya. Hearing this, Lord Ram and Lakshman went inside the ashram. When the dust of Lord Ram’s feet fell on Ahilya, who had become a stone, Ahilya once again came back to her original form.
