
Cyclonic storm Ditvah has caused huge devastation in Sri Lanka. Due to this storm, 56 people have died and about 21 missing people are being searched. Now on 30th November its effect will be seen in India also. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Kerala. This is the third cyclone to form in the Bay of Bengal. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and southern Andhra Pradesh.

What is the meaning of Ditvaah?
This cyclonic storm that came to Sri Lanka is being known as Ditvah. In this, Ditvah means lagoon. This name was suggested by Yaman as part of naming convention. This name has been kept after the Ditvah Lagoon present in Socotra Island of the country. It is known for its special coastal ecosystem.
Names of storms are determined by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones, which use a pre-approved list of names recommended by member countries.
According to IMD, this storm will hit Tamil Nadu on 30 November. This will cause heavy rain in the area. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain in the state on Saturday. An alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain in Chennai on Sunday. Fishermen have also been advised not to go into the sea till Sunday. The cyclone is expected to blow winds at speeds up to 100kmph.
