ABVP protest in JNU against Bangladesh violence, burnt effigy of militants with slogans

December 20, 2025 by Uma Shankar

There is a lot of anger in India regarding the incidents of atrocities, violence and murders happening on the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Regarding this, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested on Saturday (20 December) and burnt the effigies of militants. During this the workers also raised slogans.

Recently, the incidents of burning alive of innocent Hindus and brutal murders by radical Islamic elements in Bangladesh have shocked the entire human society. The incident occurred in Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. The name of the victim was Dipu Chandra Das. Who worked in a garment factory and lived in a rented house in the same area.

Mob murdered Deepu

According to the police, some people entered the victim’s house at around 9 pm. During this time, the mob caught Deepu on the charge of insulting Prophet Muhammad, beat him brutally and killed him. When even this did not satisfy, the fundamentalists tied his body to a tree and set it on fire.

ABVP angry over incident

This incident shook people. In protest against this, the ABVP unit of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) expressed anger by burning an effigy symbolic of extreme Islamic fundamentalism. A large number of students participated in this protest.

Questions raised on silence of leftist organization

During this, the workers said that it is extremely unfortunate that the leftist organizations of JNU are completely silent on the incidents in which innocent citizens are being targeted on the basis of religion. Activists said that these are the same organizations which organize demonstrations, slogans and meetings day and night on issues like Palestine and Gaza, but when it comes to the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, their so-called human rights voices suddenly become silent. This is a clear example of selective sensitivity and political hypocrisy.

‘This is a crime against humanity’

ABVP JNU unit president Mayank Panchal said, ‘The atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh are not just an internal matter of a country, but it is a crime against humanity. The silence of the organizations which teach morality on every international issue exposes their truth. He said that the silence of these organizations of JNU and their domestic and foreign masters is not new. He said that we have also been seeing that now they will gradually cover up this heinous crime. Their masters have already started. He said that ABVP will break this silence and become the voice of the victims.

Whereas ABVP JNU Minister Praveen K. Piyush said, ‘This effigy burning is not just a symbolic protest, but a warning against ideologies that promote communal fanaticism and violence. JNU student community wants to send a clear message that silence on the killing of innocents is also a crime.
