200+ new trains and recovery of ₹1780 crore… Know what action was taken by Railways

December 17, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Rs 1780.76 crore has been recovered from passengers without tickets, irregular tickets and unbooked luggage. This recovery has taken place in 2024-25. The government has given this information in the Parliament. As per the instructions issued by the Ministry of Railways, special ticket checking drives are conducted from time to time by the Zonal Railways. So that the number of unauthorized passengers in trains can be controlled.

The government said that cases of unauthorized travel in trains usually occur during rush hours. One reason for this is the difference between demand and supply. To fill this gap, Indian Railways operates special train services during festivals, holidays etc. So that the additional needs of passengers can be met and the seats available through regular services can be filled.

About 60 thousand special trains were run

Apart from this, the number of passengers in trains is increased on both permanent and temporary basis to provide additional seats for different types of passengers. In this sequence, about 60 thousand special trains were run on the railway network during the year 2025-26 (till November 2025) and work was done to permanently increase the train services through more than 700 coaches.

More than 200 trains by November 2025

To meet the needs of passengers, Indian Railways has started more than 200 train services during 2025-26 (by November 2025). These include 28 Vande Bharat trains, 26 Amrit Bharat Express and 2 Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. During the same period, Railways has also expanded about 100 services. Apart from this, Indian Railways has made a big increase in facilities.

Some special rules regarding luggage in train

On the other hand, the government has also decided some special rules regarding luggage in the train. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told in Parliament that while traveling by train, passengers will have to pay a fee for carrying luggage exceeding the prescribed limit. A passenger traveling in second class is allowed to carry up to 35 kg of luggage free of charge. Goods up to 70 kg can be carried by paying a fee.

At the same time, sleeper class passengers are allowed to carry 40 kg of luggage free of charge. The maximum limit is 80 kg. Passengers traveling in AC three tier or chair car are allowed to carry up to 40 kg of free luggage, which is also its maximum limit.
