At present, the work of special intensive revision of voter list (SIR) is going on in 12 states across the country. There were many protests from the opposition regarding this. Even in the Parliament there is uproar. Cases of death of employees engaged in SIR work have also come to light. This matter was also heard in the Supreme Court. The court had also sought a reply from the Election Commission in this regard. Regarding West Bengal, it was claimed that till now 39 people have lost their lives due to SIR.
Mamata government has given a big relief to those who lost their lives due to the alleged fear of Special Intensive Review (SIR). The government announced that financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each will be given to the families of those who died.
Government will provide assistance of Rs 2 lakh each
The government said that Rs 1 lakh each will be provided to the families of 13 other people who fell ill during the SIR. These 13 also include three BLOs, who allegedly faced excessive workload. Citing the government assessment, the Chief Minister said that the introduction of SIR on November 4 has created widespread fear among a section of the public. Due to this many people have committed suicide. CM claimed that now 39 such cases have come to light.
The Chief Minister said that no forceful instructions should be given which may cause trouble to the common people. Still, if you do this, the state government will help the common people as much as possible. We are accountable only to the people, democracy and the Indian Constitution.
Mamta is opposing SIR
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is continuously opposing SIR. Mamata Banerjee had also taken out a rally against it recently. During this, Mamata had asked whether conducting SIR in BJP ruled states means that the Center believes that there are infiltrators there. If SIR is conducted in two-three years, we will help in this work with every possible resource.
